A 42-year-old Kenyan nurse pleaded guilty to multiple counts of lying to American federal authorities as well as healthcare fraud, conspiracy to pay and receive bribes, aiding and abetting healthcare fraud and healthcare fraud.
Waruru who was a licensed practical nurse employed by Arbor Homecare Services LLC, committed the crime with business partner Faith Newton.

Waruru defrauded at least $100 million (KSh12 billion) from Medicare and MassHealth. The prosecution claims that Waruru also obtained fraudulently $1.2 million (KSh 144 million) from MassHealth for fictitious nursing visits.
The 52-year-old partner, Newton, pleaded not guilty and is awaiting trial for forming employment relationships with patients’ families to open doors for phony bills, visits, and procedures.
Newton is said to have used the money from the fraud to fund a luxury lifestyle, five residences, a Maserati, and investment accounts.
Having pleaded guilty to several counts of crime, Waruru will be sentenced in January 2023 and faces up to 15 years in prison.
