Ten police officers of a station in Kampala, Uganda, were imprisoned after the thieves they captured confessed that the money they claimed to have recovered was not even close to what they had taken.

According to the Daily Monitor, thieves stole $110,000 and Euro700 from a Burundi national after he left a forex bureau in Makindye area, making the man pass out.

Good Samaritans helped the man regain consciousness and one of them is said to have notified a police informer about the crime.

The police allegedly tracked down the criminals in the Masajja region and recovered the money, although they only reported finding $20,000 and €500.

The detained suspects exposed the cops’ cover, claiming that they had only declared a portion of the cash they had seized from their hiding place.

The cops reportedly spent 48 hours in custody at the same Katwe police station where the robbers were housed before being released on bond pending further investigation.

According to a police spokesman, searches will be conducted in the officers’ homes in an effort to retrieve the remaining cash as investigations continue.
