Mashujaa Day is a heroes day in Kenya, where the country remembers freedom fighters and those citizens, who have uniquely and exemplary contributed to the development,  and wellbeing of the society.

The 20th of October each year is a special day for all Kenyans in remembrance of such great citizens, who suffered for our country to be free from colonialism.

The late President Jomo Kenyatta, Jaramogi Oginga, Dedan Kimathi, pinto Gama, Tom Mboya, Kenneth Matiba are among the leaders celebrated for fighting for freedom and democracy in this country.

Masinde Muliro, Martin Shikuku were also among key players in fighting against one party system, which embraced dictatorship and imperialism way of government.

It wasn’t easy to fight for freedom, and democracy in the country. Many liberation fighters were unfairly tried and jailed, while others killed, or disappeared mysteriously.

Mashujaa day is a very important day to contemplate the far leadership, development and governance have progressed since independence. It is a day to celebrate the strides the country has made, despite the challenges Kenyans face everyday.

Kenyans should continue fighting for economic and political freedom, to liberate themselves from suffering due to bad and corrupt leadership. Voting right leaders is one form of liberation. Therefore, most Kenyans should value their vote, and use it wisely to perpendicularly deal with incompetent, and corrupt leaders.

The author takes this precious moment to wish all Kenyans a happy and fruitful Mashujaa Day, and hopes tomorrow will be a better day full of prosperity. As a people, Kenyans should unite for a common goal of a better Kenya for all Kenyans.
