The Guinea president Alpha Conde’s government was overthrown by the military. The coup was successfully executed giving way to a new leader Colonel Mamady Doumouya who confirmed the news.
Fighting broke out on Sunday near the presidential palace in Conakry city. Sources reveal that Colonel Mamady was behind the fighting, which led to the arrest of president Alpha. Videos on social media showed the president being surrounded by armed special forces.
President Alpha amended the constitution which gave him another chance to vie for a third term. But most citizens didn’t like the idea of him going for a 3rd term. He won a third term amid protests from the opposition supporters.
