Following the approval of the contentious Finance Bill, 2023 by Parliament on Wednesday, the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party has called Kenyans to a consultation meeting in Nairobi the coming week to choose the best course of action.
“We have always found a solution to our worst issues whenever we have come together as a people”. Raila Odinga declared in his statement that this time would not be any different.
“Let us meet in Kamukunji next Tuesday 10am and decide the kind of life we want to live,” said Raila.
“Azimio stated that the Kenya Kwanza administration disregarded the opinions of Kenyans who vocally protested to the divisive Bill during the public involvement stage, instead they forced it upon citizens.
The opposition party also said that Kenya Kwanza’s choice to disregard Kenyans’ preferences signals the beginning of a dictatorship.

“This form of autocracy is new! This budget is opportunistically designed to make sure Ruto’s people have plenty to eat and live well. At the cost of helpless Kenyans, they receive subsidies to import cooking oil, corn, sugar, and rice, among other things.
As a result, Azimio praised lawmakers who voted to reject the Bill and supported its revision, while also criticizing those who allegedly buckled under government pressure.
“We rejoice that, despite the administration’s insistence that not even a coma would be removed from the Bill, our MPs were able to compel the dictatorship to accept not one, not two, but numerous revisions thanks to the pressure from millions of Kenyans. But those changes weren’t sufficient to ensure Kenyans live the way we want them to”, stated Azimio.
