Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party leader Raila Odinga was hosted by pastor Ezekiel Odero in his New Life Church.

This happened a day after police officers prevented the leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party from entering the Shakahola graves site. The operation commander said they were instructed not to allow unauthorised persons into the forest.

Raila who was accompanied by pastor Ezekiel’s lawyers among them Cliff Ombeta and Kilifi governor Gideon Mung’aro was taken on a tour of the vast church.

Pastor Ezekiel is accused by prosecutors of having connections to cult leader Paul Mackenzie, who is being held on terrorism-related charges in connection with the killings of more than 100 people, many of them children, in the Shakahola region of Malindi in Kilifi County.

Mackenzie, the leader of the Good News International Church, is accused of encouraging his followers to starve to death to “meet Jesus.”

Raila has been criticizing the government for preventing members of civil society and journalists from covering the proceedings at the graveyard.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki designated the area as a crime scene on April 26, after paying a visit there.

He said that the area was off limits to the public since there was an ongoing security operation there.
