On April 29, Ruto reminded the leader of the opposition that he is the commander-in-chief and will deal with him if the protests against the government continue.

The president’s remarks came on a day he presided over the swearing-in of General Francis Ogolla as the new Chief of the Defense Forces taking over from Robert Kibochi.

“Mimi nataka niwaambie, mimi ndio commander-in-chief. Nyinyi mtajua hamjui,” Ruto said.

Ruto accused the opposition of threats stating that they had turned down an invitation to the bipartisan discussions from his government, the Kenya Kwanza.

“Hao watu waache huo mchezo, waache huo upuzi. Hakuna mali ya wananchi tena itaharibika. Hakuna tena biashara ya mwananchi itaharibika. Serikali ya Kenya itasimama imara kulinda maisha na mali na biashara ya kila mwananchi. (They should stop with their games. Our government shall protect the property and lives of every Kenyan,)” he said.

The president declared that he will not be intimidated by the opposition’s threats to demonstrate against his administration.
